Sacred Valley in the morning, train to Machu Picchu in the afternoon: ends at 15:30 in Ollantaytambo

Both routes have a version ending in Ollantaytambo. You leave Cusco at 06:20 or 07:20, have lunch in Urubamba at 12:00, and at 15:30 you're a few minutes' walk from the station, with your luggage, in time for the 16:36 Inca Rail or the 19:00 Peru Rail. It costs US$1 less because it doesn't include the return.

How the day fits

From the hotel lobby to the platform

Pickup is at your accommodation in central Cusco, with the luggage you're taking to Machu Picchu. At 14:15 you reach Ollantaytambo and get a 1-hour visit to the fortress; at 15:30 the guide says goodbye to the group heading for the train, and the bus carries on with those returning to Cusco. The station is a few minutes' walk away: the trains that fit are the 16:36 Inca Rail and the 19:00 Peru Rail to Aguas Calientes. Don't book anything earlier than 16:36.

Train tickets are bought on each company's website; we don't sell them or publish their fares. Luggage rules are set by each company: check your ticket and, if in doubt, message us on WhatsApp before booking.

What this version doesn't do

What you miss and what you save

The Super ending in Ollantaytambo skips Pisac (which on the return route comes at 16:50) and the Traditional skips Chinchero (16:45). In exchange, you finish three and a half hours earlier, with the train next door and a US$1 lower price. The buffet lunch, the guide and the morning stops are the same as on the return versions.

If you're sleeping in Cusco, see the two return routes.

The Inca Rail at 16:36 or the Peru Rail at 19:00 from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. The tour ends at 15:30 a few minutes' walk from the station; never book a train earlier than 16:36. Tickets are bought on each company's website; we don't sell them.

Super ending in Ollantaytambo (06:20, US$31) if you want Maras and Moray; Traditional ending in Ollantaytambo (07:20, US$29) if you'd rather leave later and pay less. Neither visits the last stop of its return route (Pisac or Chinchero).

Yes, it travels with you on the bus and you take it off in Ollantaytambo. Train companies limit hand luggage: check your ticket's conditions and leave the rest at your hotel in Cusco.

In the town, a few minutes' walk from the train station. The guide shows the way to the group going on to the train; the bus continues to Pisac or Chinchero with those returning to Cusco.

No: the tour leaves Cusco in the morning and there's no pickup in Ollantaytambo. The combination that works is the valley in the morning and the train in the afternoon.

That works too. The tour ends in Ollantaytambo and from there you make your own way to your accommodation in the valley; many travellers take the train the next morning.

Because they don't include the return to Cusco. Pickup in Cusco, the guide, the buffet lunch and the stops up to Ollantaytambo are the same.
